Charlie had about a grand. I would get the perfect hand, she would get the almost perfect hand, and everyone else would get good hands that were actually squat compared to Charlie’s and mine. XXX Tube Jack-ten was higher than jack-four, so it was my bid. She came back a few moments later with cans of Pepsi and Sierra Mist with the comment, “I guess this will have to do.”
I mixed everyone a good stiff drink in a tall glass. Charlie bid twenty. After I composed myself, I came back into the main room and said, “I guess I will just have to try to stay out of your way as much as possible.
